### Price and Availability
The iPhone 18 Pro is available now, starting at $1199 for the 256GB model. You can pick it up in Black, Silver, Glacier, or Burgundy.
The iPhone 14 Pro, launched in 2022, is no longer sold by Apple directly. But you can find refurbished units from third-party sellers for around $300 to $400, depending on condition.
### Performance: A20 Pro vs A16
Under the hood is where things get interesting. The iPhone 18 Pro runs on Apple's A20 Pro chip, which Apple calls its fastest ever. The iPhone 14 Pro has the older A16 chip.
We haven't tested the A20 Pro yet, but Apple says it handles multitasking, gaming, and AI tools without breaking a sweat. The A16 in the iPhone 14 Pro is no slouch either. In our testing, it played any Apple Arcade game and handled video editing with ease. We even said it had "almost too much power."
But there's a catch: the A16 doesn't support Apple Intelligence. That's a big deal if you want the latest AI features.
### Apple Intelligence: The Missing Piece
The iPhone 18 Pro's A20 Pro chip enables Apple Intelligence, while the iPhone 14 Pro's A16 does not. We don't think you should buy a phone just for Apple Intelligence—it still feels like a work in progress—but its absence does make the iPhone 14 Pro feel older.
How much longer will the iPhone 14 Pro get updates? Apple doesn't say, but based on their usual seven-year support window, you've probably got about three more years. That's something to keep in mind.
### Camera: Pro Controls and Variable Aperture
The iPhone 18 Pro steps up the camera game with three 48MP rear lenses, including a main sensor with variable aperture. According to Apple, it's their most advanced camera yet, and it should excel in both bright and low light.
You also get Pro controls, so you can manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, and photographic styles.
The iPhone 14 Pro also has three rear cameras: a 48MP main, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 12MP telephoto. It still takes great photos in any lighting, and we called it one of the best cameras around when it launched.
### The Verdict: Should You Upgrade?
If you're happy with your iPhone 14 Pro and don't care about Apple Intelligence or the latest camera tricks, you can comfortably wait another year or two. The A16 chip is still plenty fast for everyday tasks.
But if you want the best performance, future-proof AI features, and a noticeably better camera, the iPhone 18 Pro is a worthy upgrade. Just be prepared to spend at least $1199.
Either way, you can't go wrong. The iPhone 14 Pro remains a solid device, and the iPhone 18 Pro is a fantastic new option.
