Mafia III Just Got a Free 60fps Upgrade—Here's What You Need to Know

If you own Mafia III on PS4 or Xbox One, you might want to dust off that disc or check your digital library. 2K Games just dropped a free update that bumps the game to 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. And they did it without any prior announcement—surprise! ### A stealthy next-gen upgrade The update is available now for existing owners. All you need to do is fire up your newer console, head to the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store, and claim it at no extra cost. It's that simple. The timing is interesting, too. Mafia III first launched on PS4 and Xbox One back in October 2016, so we're creeping up on its tenth anniversary. Originally, the game ran at 30fps, so this update doubles the frame rate and throws in some other technical improvements for good measure. If you've played it before, you know how much smoother it'll feel. ### Definitive Edition bundles all the story DLC Alongside the update, 2K has released Mafia III: Definitive Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This package includes the base game plus all three story expansions: Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, and Sign of the Times. You also get the Family Kick-Back Pack and the Judge, Jury & Executioner Weapons Pack. Basically, it's everything you need to experience the full story in one go. But wait, there's more. The same edition is also part of Mafia: The Omerta Collection, a recently released compilation that bundles Mafia III with Mafia, Mafia II, and last year's Mafia: The Old Country. That's the entire mainline series in one place. Hangar 13 has been at the helm for every entry since the third game, including the 2020 Definitive Edition remake of the original 2002 release. So if you're a newcomer, this is a great way to dive in. ### PC players get some love too It's not just console players who benefit. The Steam version of Mafia III is getting a hefty patch that brings a bunch of fixes, technical improvements, and quality-of-life changes. No specifics yet, but any update is welcome, right? ### Limited-time discount for new players If you don't already own the game, you're in luck. Mafia III is currently 80% off across digital storefronts. That's a steal. However, 2K hasn't said when the sale ends, so if you're interested, don't wait too long. > "This update is a love letter to our fans who've stuck with us for nearly a decade," a 2K spokesperson said in a statement. "We're thrilled to bring the game to a new generation of players with improved performance and all the content they could want." So whether you're a longtime fan or a curious newcomer, there's never been a better time to jump into Mafia III. The free 60fps update is live now, and the Definitive Edition and Omerta Collection are available for purchase. Just head to your console's store or Steam to check it out.
